It has been a while since I blogged, mmm don’t think I will go there!
Anne was going to do the post on our Bruges trip back in early November, but ended up in hospital for 5 nights and she hasn't yet got around to doing it, now doubt she will get around to it!
Mulhouse was our first stop on this Christmas market trip, another reason to visit was the Cité de l’automobile which has 454 cars including over 100 Bugatti’s, thank goodness it was there otherwise I'm not sure what we'd have done!
The Mulhouse people were unfriendly which in our experience is totally unusual in France. Overall the French are very friendly and have a good sense of humour, they love Australian's, even ones like us with extremely limited language skills, ordering a coffee or meal at times can be a task for us and them!
To be totally honest the only reason you would go to Mulhouse is to visit this wonderfull museum and continue on to somewhere else like Colmar. I have not yet processed many shots but will in due course.
Colmar is the complete opposite, it is such a pretty and friendly town, very photogenic. The weather was cool on Wednesday with the temperature not moving much between a minimum -2 with a maximum of - 1, we had a little light snow that did not settle, only on the cars and the roofs.
I took so many photo’s it will take me ages to process and post the best ones here. The markets are spread over 3 or 4 venues in the town, each selling similar things. You can smell mulled wine wherever you go, it gets a bit much at times. The food has a very Germanic influence as this area has been a part of Germany and then France over the years.
Strasbourg is the seat of the European Parliament with the old town surrounded by a river which makes it very picturesque. The cathedral is huge, and the stone is pink that it's built from and dates back to 1340.
Security was tight with the police and army constantly patrolling, we felt very safe. The crowd on Friday night was like coming out of a football match or the Easter show. Walking around you could hear different nationalities, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Russians and very few English speakers.
We enjoyed this city and will return at some future date in the spring.
If you are planning a trip to France both Colmar & Strasbourg are well worth a visit for a couple of days.
Must be off to pack for London.
